● One common way to organize a description is by considering the space. For example, you might describe a room by imagining what you would see if you were standing in the doorway, looking from the left-hand side to the right. Another approach is to begin with an obvious or important feature and then describe what surrounds it.

● The words and images in a description should appeal to as many of your readers’ senses as possible: sight, hearing, touch,taste and smell.
● Similes, metaphors and figures of speech can help bring images to mind for your readers.
